Malaysia
Astronaut...

Malaysian
newspaper has been going crazy with coverage on our
almost reality like selection of Malaysian first
astronaut. Almost as we the ordinary folks don’t get to
spent our 50 cents SMS vote to choose.
The
government is going to spent millions to put the first
Malaysian in space. We wonder if it is really worth it.
Give
this a thought:
‘We were on a flight, flying from Penang to Singapore
and back on a Boeing 737... does that make us PILOT? or
just mere PASSENGERS?’
We
pay our friends millions of dollars so that we could get
a seat on their shuttle to space, does that means we are
astronaut?
J
We
would think spending the money on some university space
program research funding or buying better research
equipment for our space program in a university, so that
one day, maybe NASA or Russia would invite one of our
Malaysian researchers in its space shuttle launch to do
his or her research in space. Funding for a research or
research equipment would have a longer and lasting
effects rather than buying a ticket to space, which is
only going to last for a few hours for the "astronauts"
and clapping Malaysians.
Claude Nicollier is Switzerland’s first astronaut. He
was chosen by the European Space Agency (ESA) to be one
of the continent first three astronaut in 1978. However
he had to wait another 14 years before he embarked on
his first space flight with NASA and ESA in 1992. This
is how he puts it, to those who aspire to become an
astronaut:
‘If
you’re a pilot, you need to become a little bit of an
engineer and scientist. If you are a scientist, you need
to be come a littler bit of doctor and a pilot. You will
need to like science.’
I
guess for our first Malaysian, I hope, you will need to
be a little bit of all three with an interest in
science.
Comments:
Is the selected Malaysian qualified for this space trip or is it the huge sum of tax payers' monies paid through the goverment that supported such an act ?

Not too sure if the angkasawan qualified or not... But certainly the government pays a lot of money to get him there. I just don't understand why we need to sent some one up there, when its not on our own technology or we don't even have a proper science experiment to do up there

You are damned right my friend. I agree with your suggestions and comments as well.

I am working in a MNC and this act makes me feel ashame. Sending someone to do Teh Tarik in space, oh my god, what a shame as a Malaysian. I am so afraid that one day, some of my counter part in US, Ireland, UK will ask me about the Malaysian astronaut. I am feeling terrible now.

Congratulations to Dr.Sheikh Muzaffar for successful blast off and touch down with approx 8.5G. Its a challenge that not many of us can go through, and also congratulation to our BN government to burn the RAKYAT's money!
Malaysia always like to be a head of everything, without working for it. Just pay $ you can be what you wanted to be or what you want. With this approach...of course all our "Impian menjadi kenyataan"
The space program should be the a brain child of malaysian government, not a costly add on package offered by Russian for purchasing the fighter jets...
Anyway there people around the world spending years studying space science to be an Astronaut..but all we need is $ to be one and some good contacts.
Just to share with you guys, the other day I'm chit chatting with my neighbor's son, he is 10 years old. I asked him what is his ambition, he told me he wanted to be a space man...I was shocked to hear that, then i advice him, to be a space man we must do good in science, maths and the related subjects. He turn around and told me "My father said i can study anything and become a spaceman"
Well I already seen one future Angkasawan....more to come i guess.
God bless Malaysia....
I think
Why are the need for rocket science when our people still lack of computer knowledge.
A space participant is the person who follows the astronauts to space to conduct some other experiment or research, the space participant does not require experience and academic qualification as astronouts, they can be reseachers or scientist from some other fields

sending someone to space with the peoples money just to bang balls up there is a waste for all. we need to be more optimistic about doing something. no researches or studies conducted up there, only making teh tarik, eat sate, celebrated hari raya and fly kites....

this is just another stupid programme from our briliant bn leader, waste money and time, if i was rich i think i could send a dog to space and call it angkasadog. wake up la badawi, think before you do something, use the money on right purpose is better, no money for fuel subsidy cos hav to send someone to space, aiyar, why like that?

YOU ARE ABSOUTELY RIGHT - IT IS ONLY A SHOW, WHAT A PITY, NOW MALAYSIAN ARE NOT THAT STUPID.
11/23/2007 7:19:09 PM | MAS - YOU GUESS WHO IS STUPOD
when we the ordinary heads could know so clearly the differences of an Astronout vs a Passenger, does it mean that Our malaysia leaders' brains are no more than odinary?? Or they are far-sighted and brilliant enough to think of something extra-ordinary??

hey, guys...we have to see more things in a bright side. we did sent Malaysian scientists out to Arctic and Antarctica a few years back (and we still did) to do a research, and at that time we are cursing and questioning on why the Government spent our money on such as waste, but don't you think now that is worth it?all the issues nowadays regarding global warming and climate change can be more understandable better through those research. although we don't have our own station and equipments there, but still we are contributing to a better world. don't you think that science in outer space can help us in many ways in future? i bet we have to wait and see.we better believe that!
