Opportunity

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians
should not be frightened of
China as a force that might
destabilize the region,
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk
Seri Najib Tun Razak said.
Instead, he said, China
should be looked upon as a
land of opportunity for
Malaysians to increase
bilateral and trade ties
with.
“We never thought of China
as a threat but as our true
friend,” he said at a dinner
to celebrate the 15th
anniversary of the
Malaysia-China Friendship
Association.
The event organized by the
association, was also to
celebrate the 33rd
anniversary of
Malaysia-China diplomatic
relations and Malaysia's
50th anniversary of
Independence.
Najib also said that the
good ties allowed bilateral
trade to grow and said last
year the figure was at
around US$22bil (RM74.8bil).
We are very lucky in
Malaysia that we already
have many good schools
teaching good Mandarin.
While we are not denying
that China is a force to
reckon with, we are very
sure the government can make
good use of these schools to
proliferate the teaching of
mandarin to our young
Malaysians. This will ensure
all Malaysians from all
races are ready for the
awakening of the giant.
Maybe more money and good
plans from the government to
these schools instead of
today’s segregation (frankly
I am not very sure how it
worked, maybe our readers
can share) Sekolah
Kebangsaan and Sekolah Jenis
Kebangsaan, since we now
know the importance of China
from our DPM.
Comments:
Truelly agree with the editor. I think it is time that our government walk the talk. More emphasize should be given to the Mandarin classes taught at school. I think it would be a good idea if more Mandarin classes being taught in nasional school as well. Why not making Mandarin the 3rd language after English?
Malaysian should NOT be afraid that this language would be a threat to Bahasa Malaysia, as a vibrant community, we should be flexible to pick up new knowledges + technology to compete with the rest of the world. It's time for us to realize that, we are not only competing against Malay, Indian, Chinese, Kadazan..etc, but with the rest of the races (countries) in this world.

Napoleon quoted "China is a sleeping giant, when it awakes, it moves the world".
When Beijing constructing the Olympic nest steel frame stadium, the whole world is shortages of steels. Immediately after that, the steel price shoot up like crazy ! I am just siding an example to tell us how influential of China to the world now.
Way back in 2003, when Shanghai erected the Maglev train, the train is running a top speed of 430km/h. Recently, China has announced that they have acquired the technology and will have a home grown magnetic train soon.
Just to let all of us know, China has recently make a facelift of their train. Those routes that connecting between major cities such as Shanghai/Suzhou/Wuxi/HangZhou has reached to a top speed of 150km/h. Due to I am currently working in Suzhou, I commuting to Shanghai very frequently to visit some of my friends. It is really an eye opening to all of us, China is no longer lagging behind. They make their own trucks, forklift, cars, bus, and etc. In fact, more than 80% of world supply computers are from China !
Hua Wei, a state owned networking/telecommunication company is the largest networking company in China. In fact, they design and produce their own products such as ADSL modem, switches, routers, etc and also exported to many countries in the world. Annual revenue is 8.5Billion USD in 2006.
The Malaysia government shall think prudently to understand how importance of globalization. We cannot continually shut the door and survive alone. We never and will never have such a ecomony of scales.
The turtle and the rabbit games has started....

The are many versions of saying, my above statement is based on one of the magazine that I read in Singapore. If u surf the net, there is another saying :
,"When China wakes up, the whole world will be shaken."
I think the meaning is quite similar.
