Tip #1 Does changing to Synthetic Oil Give You
Higher Petrol Mileage?
You have heard your friends talking about it or
even read about it, but is it true, is it worth
spending the extra rm100 for synthetic and still
get the ROI (return of investment)?
After doing some research we found out that
switching from conventional motor to synthetic
oil will help you achieve better petrol mileage
due to the fact synthetic lubricate your engines
better than conventional. This will caused less
friction and making the engine runs more
efficiently and helping you to achieve greater
mileage. However this savings might not be that
huge compared to the amount of money you need to
fork out to switch to synthetic.
The real savings from synthetic is actually
coming from the likely help increase in the life
of your car engine and getting the extra
kilometer in between change oil change compared
conventional mineral oil. However again this
saving pose over a long time.
Stay tune for our Fuel economy tip #2 next week.

Darn it, all this while i thought the workshop foreman purposely wants to charge me alot for synthetic oil. However, i think this only applies to new car. The old 7 years Proton Wira i'm driving, i believe it won't make any different if using the mineral oil...and it's alot cheaper too for 5000km.

i agree the savings is more on overall lifetime of car. Synthetic will take care of ur engine better. However most ppl sells their car in 5-10years, so most of the time you will not see the advantage. Compared to the money spent.

10 years ago, I used Mobil 1 for my Wira. However, Mobile 1 motor oil price increases every year, and the price jump is scary. The 1st Mobil price which I bought 10 years ago was about RM70. I believe the price now above RM200.
I do not know what the fuck that causes the motor price go skyhigh level, so after few years of used, I had decided to stop using Mobil synthetic oil.
My experience is, synthetic oil is definitely a good oil..it is not only protects your engine but also gives a very smooth feeling when it cruise. The car engine is much lower noise compare to normal oil. This is what you paid for. After years, I have decided to stop using synthetic oil, I am even using normal oil for my Toyota Camry.

Agree with Callum. I myself is using normal oil, and my 1996 Civic is doing alright all this while. No issue with the engine thus far of using normal oil. The most important thing is that, it doesn't put a dent to your wallet.
