Car Price Mapping

Since we are adopting AFTA a few years ago,
the new car as well as used car price has
dropped quite significantly. For a price of
RM43K today, you can get Wira 1.5 liter
versus 1.3 liter 7 years ago. That is
approximately RM10K of reduction! To put it
into a better perspective, imagine this, for
a fresh graduate in year 2000 with RM2.4K
salary is paying RM55K for Wira 1.5 litre,
but for a fresh graduate with a RM2.8K
salary today, they are only paying RM43K for
the same car model.
Higher pay and cheaper car price… it is no
wonder that we are seeing more of imported
cars like Toyota Vios and Honda City driven
by youngsters (especially fresh graduates).
However, this may not be true for some
people though. Not all of us are looking for
new cars, some would prefer cheaper used
car. The good news is that, this is where we
are going to help. We have basically
compiled the used and new price mapping of
most car models available in Malaysia. You
can use it as the guideline when buying used
car.
Basically imported cars that has ~RM100K
price tag and above, the depreciation rate
on the 1st year is ~10%. This is
even higher for local cars, the depreciation
is at ~20%! Take for an example, a new Myvi
cost RM43K, but the selling price for 1 year
old used Myvi is RM37K.
Our advice is to buy a 1 year old used car,
than forking out extra money for a brand new
one. However, we would want to advise buyer
to be smart when doing that, cheap stuff
isn’t always guarantee to be good. Check the
mileage, engines and etc. Make sure it is
the best bargain.

One more tips, don't buy used car from dealers. Its best to get it straight from the owner. And i want to congratulate luk4all website for having the free online posting, so that people like me can save a few thousands bucks selling/buying cars. This goes to property as well.

Do we foresee there will be a gradual price drop until 2010 in which the AFTA rule is enforce ? By then, we shall see all cars prices will drop like hell ?
A VIOS in China cost about RM50 to RM55K only, and the new launch of VIOS in Malaysia is expected to be higher price than current model.
So, what is the rationale of so-called AFTA rule for ? Do u think that by 2010, our car price is really dropped to another 30 to 40% as compare to the current price ?
We are really unfortunate due to proton protectionism.

That's 3 years away, and pretty much i think by that time, it is either Proton already has found a new partner of it's already closed shop. Even though i would prefer to see the former as a Malaysian i would really want to see Proton to be able to compete with the rest of the car makers in the world.
By then it would be competitive enough, and believe Proton model price would drop as well (that comes after quality, manufacturing revamp under the new partnership...else, i would rather see it go bankrupt).
So, all hope is not lost, there is still hope we will get Vios at RM50K range by then.

The latest announcement :
Proton has loss 600 Millions over the past 9 months. If you calculate this amount in day, it is 2 Millions ringgit per DAY !!! Can u imagine a company loss 2Millions ringgit a day ???
We have been talking about quality problem since we started Proton. Does anyone dare to said, Proton has improved their quality over years ????
I am very sure if you visit any of the car survey or forum, this is the most notorous brand of all in this world.
We had enough of this nonsence, and I am looking forward the closure soon.
VIOS new model will be below RM70K as announced. Toyota, a world leader in car industry has been known for its quality and pricing, which is second to NONE !!! The consumer eyes are sharp, only those idiot who are still dreaming about a salt fish will swim one day.
