Najib: ACA to screen BN election candidates, 2008/02/03
By : M. Hamzah Jamaludin
PEKAN: Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates picked to contest in the general election will be screened by the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA).
Deputy Prime Minister and BN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak said this would, however, depend on the situation and time factor.
"We refer (to the ACA) but sometimes the candidates are decided at the last minute. So, for those who can be referred, we refer. Normally, we'll also ask the candidates whether they have any ACA investigation record.
"It's not compulsory, but as a matter of party procedure, we refer candidates whom we feel we have the time to do so," he said after handing aid to fire victims at Felda Cini 3 here.
If you refer to Malaysia decide 2008, The Star site here, you will noticed that UMNO has a total of 453 candidate (ADUN + Parlimen). Lets us do some simple maths with some assumptions
- Out of the 453 candidate
- assume 20% are last minute change
- that will leave us with 80% * 453 = 362c andidates
- Assume it would take ONE ACA officer approximately ONE week to screen ONE candidate, checking the candidate’s bank accounts, properties, stocks and etc
- 362 candidates = 362 weeks
- 52 weeks = 1 year
- 362/52 = ~7 years to screen all the candidate
- The article above is written back on 3rd Feb and nominations day is 24th Feb, which means it only took ACA 3 weeks to screen 362 candidates and make sure that they are clean.
So fellow bloggers eat your word…. YES WE ARE EFFICIENT!!!
PS: most probably my maths are wrong, but we sure can do things fast.
